1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and name. If you sign up with a social provider (Google, Microsoft), we receive your name and email from that provider.
Audio Data
During lessons, we process audio from your microphone and shared screen/tab to generate transcriptions. Audio is streamed for real-time processing and is not permanently stored. Only the resulting text transcripts are saved to your account.
Learning Data
We store your lesson transcripts, vocabulary items, flashcards, and study progress. This data is necessary to provide the core functionality of ChickenDuck.
Uploaded Files
If you upload files for vocabulary extraction, we process the file content and store extracted vocabulary. The original file is stored and can be deleted at any time.
Usage Data
We collect basic usage analytics (pages visited, features used, session duration) to improve ChickenDuck. This data is aggregated and not tied to individual users.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and improve ChickenDuck's features
- Process your subscription and payments
- Send important account notifications
- Respond to your support requests
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the product
We do not use your learning data to train AI models. Your transcripts and vocabulary are private to you.
3. Data Sharing
We share data only with service providers who help us operate ChickenDuck:
- Supabase: Database and authentication
- Speech-to-text providers: Real-time transcription (audio is streamed, not stored)
- Stripe: Payment processing
- Analytics providers: Aggregated usage statistics
We never sell your personal information or learning data to third parties.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
- All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- Data at rest is encrypted
- Authentication uses secure, modern protocols
- Access to user data is strictly limited
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View all data we have about you
- Delete: Remove individual items or your entire account
- Export: Download your flashcards and learning data
- Correct: Update your account information

6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.
7. Cookies & Local Storage
Essential (Always Active)
- Authentication tokens (localStorage) — keeps you logged in
- Theme preference (localStorage) — remembers light/dark mode
- Language preference — remembers your chosen language
- Cookie consent preference (localStorage) — remembers your cookie choice
Non-Essential (Opt-in)
We do not currently use any analytics or tracking cookies. If we add analytics in the future, they will require your explicit consent.
You can manage your preferences at any time using the cookie settings banner or by clearing your browser data.
8. Children's Privacy
ChickenDuck is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. International Users
ChickenDuck is operated from Singapore. For users in the EEA, we transfer data to Singapore based on the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or because the transfer is necessary for the performance of the contract between you and ChickenDuck.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
